15 AUGUST 2017 (Toronto, ON) – After months of speculation about new music, multi-platinum selling band Thirty Seconds to Mars has announced their first single “Walk On Water” set to be released August 22 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. From their forthcoming fifth studio album, “Walk On Water” will have its television debut on the MTV Video Music Awards on August 27th.

About the upcoming release, Jared Leto says “After four long years, hundreds of days, thousands of hours, gazillions of seconds, we have finally managed to finish a single fu**ing song. Whoever thought “soon” would actually be here “now”. With the help of groundbreaking nanotechnology, chatbots and self-driving music software, we have wrangled from the depths of our cold black hearts, some semblance of a song. If you’re still reading this press release and managed to get this far, you should probably get to work or school before you get fired or grounded. If you’re stubborn, like I am, please continue and let me share with you a few words on our brand new single, the ever so subtle and minimalist ode we tenderly call ‘WALK ON WATER’. Of course this entire paragraph is complete and total hogwash but I’m not sure exactly what to say about the song. Honestly, we miss you all. We can’t wait to get back on the road and we couldn’t be more proud to share with you the first single off of our new album. And yes, we have been working on it for four years. The last time we put an album out, there were no self-driving cars, no fidget spinners, President Trump was still that guy on The Apprentice and Jon Snow hadn’t even died yet. #SpoilerAlert”

Thirty Seconds to Mars, comprised of Jared Leto, Shannon Leto and Tomo Milicevic, first hinted at new music in a dramatic teaser video unveiled on Twitter in June. The record, set for release on Interscope Records/Universal Music Canada, follows the band’s 2013 studio album LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS. Most recently, Thirty Seconds to Mars hit the road with Muse on their 20-date North American summer tour.

The band's eponymous debut album, 30 Seconds to Mars, was released in 2002 and remains a cult favorite. They went on to achieve worldwide success with the release of their second album A Beautiful Lie (2005), which sold over 5 million copies. Their next release was This Is War in 2009. The recording process of the album was marked by a legal dispute with record label EMI that eventually became the subject of the award winning and acclaimed documentary film Artifact (2012). Thirty Seconds to Mars then released the fourth album, Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (2013), to critical and commercial success. The band has sold over 15 million albums worldwide and sells out arenas and stadiums globally.

Thirty Seconds to Mars has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career, including a dozen MTV Awards, a Billboard Music Award and a Guinness World Record for the Longest Running Tour in history. On July 4th, the band shot a documentary titled A Day In the Life of America. Including over 90 crews in all 50 states (plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico), the project captures American life in a single day. A Day in the Life of America is due for release in 2018.
