01 MAY 2026 (TORONTO, ON) — Tori Amos today releases her new studio album In Times of Dragons via Universal/Fontana. The 12 million-selling singer songwriter’s 18th album presents an ambitious allegorical story about power, resistance and transformation in an era defined by political upheaval.
At the centre of In Times of Dragons is a fictionalised version of Amos who finds herself trapped in a marriage to a dangerous billionaire before embarking on a journey across America, encountering allies and adversaries as she searches for freedom.
“This is a metaphorical story about the fight for democracy over tyranny” Amos explains. “We really don’t know how this American experiment of democracy is going to end up. I’m a pragmatist. I’m not an optimist. I’m not a fatalist. But as a songwriter I needed to hear the clarion call and just say” - to quote her beloved 1994 song Cornflake Girl - “this is not really happening? You bet your life it is.”
The story begins with the ominous piano chords of opening track “Shush,” where the protagonist realises the danger she faces. Over the course of the album, she begins to change, gradually transforming into the dragon she will need to become in order to confront the forces pursuing her.
The album’s title track “In Times of Dragons” marks the moment she leaves that life behind and begins her journey. Reflecting on the daughter she’s been separated from and the world she’s fleeing, the song captures the shock, uncertainty and determination of that first step into the unknown.
As the story unfolds, the protagonist encounters a cast of characters who help her survive - from friends who offer refuge to the rebellious Gasoline Girls, a collective of women who “tend the fire” and stand together in defiance.
Across the album Amos also explores generational legacy and responsibility. Her daughter Natashya Hawley co-writes and sings on several tracks, including “Veins,” a call-and-response between mother and daughter questioning what emotional and moral inheritance we pass down.
Across a career spanning more than 35 years, Amos has built one of modern music’s most distinctive catalogues, earning multiple Grammy nominations and selling over 12 million albums worldwide. With In Times of Dragons, Amos once again brings together the political and the personal in a work that reflects the anxieties and upheavals of the present moment, blending mythic storytelling with urgent contemporary themes.
Amos is supporting the album with her largest European tour in over a decade, performing across 17 countries with longtime collaborator, bassist and MD Jon Evans and renowned drummer Earl Harvin alongside a trio of backing vocalists – Liv Gibson, Deni Hlavinka and Hadley Kennary - performing songs from In Times of Dragons alongside highlights from across her celebrated career.
