04 May 2018 (Toronto, ON) - Public Records and Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, today announced the release of promising new recording artist Pilla B’s debut album. Titled 1 Year-To-Datethe album is slated for release on May 11 2018 – exactly one year after the tragic murder of Pilla B’s close friend and frequent collaborator, Yung Dubz.

“1 Year-To-Date” (#1YTD) is a public snapshot of Pilla B’s emotional state and feelings over the last year as he has privately worked on growing as both an artist and an individual. #1YTD is produced by Harley Arsenault and executive produced by Noah “40” Shebib. Listen to the first single You Ain’t Outside here: https://umc.lnk.to/YAO

Pilla B is best known for his collaborative project with the late Yung Dubz “6AM,” a thirteen track EP that offers first-hand accounts of life and loss from Toronto’s Rexdale neighborhood. The project showcased Pilla B’s undisputable gift for melody. With a tight grip on his craft and a gritty, soulful sound Pilla B leaves a lasting impression, glaringly apparent on the first single from this project, the anthemic record “You Ain’t Outside.”

Pilla B emerges from Rexdale, an area internationally known as the neighbourhood where late mayor Rob Ford smoked crack. Despite this reductive impression the Toronto suburb has a deep musical history giving rise to renown artists whose influences are apparent in Pilla B’s personal sound – at once gritty, visceral and soulful.

A big personality, Pilla B lights up any room he is in. Fun loving and a joker, his personality belies the trauma and often disguises the pain he carries. A genuine force to be reckoned with, Pilla B tells authentic stories echoing the sentiments of the Rexdale community enabling listeners to connect and find meaning through his music.

A listening party tour sponsored by Aurora Cannabis Inc. for #1YTD will be held major North American cities; Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. Additional details to be announced at a later date.
