UNIVERSAL MUSIC CANADA ANNOUNCES THE SIGNING OF GENTLEMEN HUSBANDS

DEBUT SINGLE “SHELTER VALLEY” AVAILABLE DIGITALLY NOW

ON TOUR WITH MATTHEW GOOD THIS FALL

(TORONTO, ON – 31 July 2013) – Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company, is pleased to announce the signing of Cobourg, Ontario natives, Gentlemen Husbands. The band is gearing up for a busy few months, kicking off today with the release of debut single, Shelter Valley and heading out on an extensive 31-date cross-Canada tour this fall with Matthew Good. Gentlemen Husbands formed nearly ten years ago when lead guitarist Ryan Hutcheson, bassist Jed Atkinson and drummer Dan Farrell started out playing in hardcore bands together, under various names. They were later joined by singer/guitarist Derrick Ballard, who was a longtime friend from the same high school. Through years of creating music together, Gentlemen Husbands have built an expansive sound around compelling lyrics influenced by such artists as Counting Crows, Ryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen. "We are thrilled to have found a home at Universal Music Canada,” says Derrick Ballard, “and are genuinely grateful to be working alongside true music fans, who have been supportive of every decision we’ve made creatively, and as a band." Celebrating the release of their debut single “Shelter Valley”, the band is currently offering an exclusive stream here.  “Shelter Valley”, along with several other tracks to be released this fall, was recorded at Noble Street Studios in Toronto and The Bathouse Recording Studio in Kingston with producer Gavin Brown (The Tragically Hip, Metric, Billy Talent).  Randy Staub (Metallica, Roy Orbison) mixed the tracks at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver while mastering was done by Ted Jensen (Muse, David Bowie) at Sterling Sound in New York.  For a behind-the-scenes look at the band’s studio recording sessions, click here. “We couldn’t be happier to have Gentlemen Husbands in the Universal Music Canada family,” said Don Kitchen, Universal Music Canada, A&R, “The band and Gavin have recorded tracks that are solid from start to finish and I cannot wait for the world to hear them.” Stay tuned for more music to be released from Gentlemen Husbands later this fall.
