TAEKWONDO LAUNCHES AT MIDNIGHT TONIGHT – SHORT FILM TO FOLLOW

ARCADE FIRE COVER IS PART OF CANADASOUND PROJECT

CANADA DAY 150 PERFORMANCE ON PARLIAMENT HILL

29 JUNE 2017 (Toronto, ON) – Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling, genre-defying groove purveyors Walk Off The Earth today release their brand-new single Taekwondo, their epic, latest offering at midnight tonight. The song is preceded by the release of Wake Up, part of the CanadaSound project.

The JUNO award-winning band will release Taekwondo, their first new music since 2016’s smash hit, Fire In My Soul. Accompanying the single will be a comical video that fans of the band have come to expect. The single and video are part of a 16-minute short film, which tells the story of a young, romantic idealist (Gianni Luminati) as he learns the skills of self-defense while preparing for a showdown with ninjas along the road to wooing the girl of his dreams (Sarah Blackwood). See the trailer for Taekwondo below.

The quintet from Burlington are among a select few notable artists invited to collaborate with the CanadaSound project, created by cleansheet communications and partnering with CBC Music/Ici Musique, The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, The Juno Awards, and the Canadian Department of Heritage. The virtual platform anyone can access and contribute to has, since launch this spring, been building a sound library which “expresses the experience of living in Canada.” For their submission, WOTE chose Arcade Fire’s Wake Up as inspiration, bringing their own unique flair and combining the found sounds from across Canada as elements within the rhythms.

“Being part of CanadaSound allowed us to expand on the unorthodox selection of sounds we try to explore in all our covers,” explains Luminati. “This project was tailor-made for us.” Luminati continues, “…While Taekwondo has been an ambitious audio-visual outlet on a scope we’ve wanted to attempt for ages. We’re super excited over how it’s turned out. And, we are even more excited that we have been given the opportunity to debut both songs on the same stage while celebrating with our fellow Canadians on such a special day.”

Walk Off The Earth will be performing on Parliament Hill as part of this Saturday’s Canada Day 150 celebrations, before going on to further North American, European, and their first-ever Australian tour dates – a 30-day jaunt around the world. See full tour below.
